As Baseball Rises In Uganda, Teams Take The Field In Auburndale

When you think of baseball, Africa may be the last place that comes to mind.

The Allen VR Stanley Secondary School of Math and Science for the Athletically Talented, a prep school known as AVRS that Stanley opened in 2013 on the outskirts of the Ugandan capital of Kampala, is working to change that.

“My goal — and I think this will happen in a couple of years — is to replace the Dominican Republic as the source for players,” Stanley said with a Staten Island accent. “I think some of the Major League Teams are beginning to see that.” Read More via TheLedger.
