Istanbul’s Leading Contemporary Art Space Reopens in a Very Different Turkey

The inaugural exhibition in SALT Beyoğlu’s revamped space, which was shuttered in 2016, features works by the Turkish artists Aydan Murtezaoğlu and Bülent Şangar.

The reopening included significant fanfare and marked the inauguration of a major exhibition, Continuity Error, consisting of work by Aydan Murtezaoğlu and Bülent Şangar, notable figures in the country’s art scene who emerged in the 1990s but have been largely overlooked since. The show presents both newly commissioned and older works, documentation, and works the artists executed together and separately, the most ambitious of which are two site-specific performances, “Unemployed Employees – I found you a new job!” (2006–18) and “Lab Created” (2006–18).
